top-10-shows-and-movies-on-netflix-this-week

For a perfect movie viewing week, let’s check out the top 10 shows and movies on Netflix this week. It’s not super easy to find that list on Netflix itself without digging into it a little bit. We’re here to help streamline that process.

Check out the top 10 shows and movies on Netflix list below, along with a brief synopsis of just what the heck it is that everyone’s watching. For a more curated and longer list, check out our Mid 2021 Best Movies And Where To Watch Them article.

The Defeated

Opening of popular shows/movies on Netflix list, we have The Defeated. The German series doesn’t offer an alternate history of Berlin after World War II, but does offer a fictionalized account of the chaos in Berlin as the Allies jockeyed for power there in the war’s aftermath. It has an interesting premise, with an execution that can best be described as a slight miss.

Bake Squad

Bake Squad, one of the most popular netflix movies today, is a show where expert bakers compete in ech episode to provide creative treats to lucky party throwers.

The competition in Bake Squad is a little different than you might see in similar series. Host Christina Tosi, the founder of Milk Bar bakery, has created a “squad” of four of the best bakers she’s come across. The same four bakers Tosi picked will compete in each episode to have a guest party thrower pick their confection for use during their event. But they don’t get eliminated and they play for nothing but pride.

Cocomelon

When you think of Netflix, you might think of immovable cultural artefacts like Friends, or beloved original productions like Stranger Things, or oddly ratified lockdown staples like Tiger King. And yet one of the biggest Netflix shows, possibly ever, is a show you might not even be aware of. Ladies and gentlemen, that show is Cocomelon.

All American

Created by April Blair and inspired somewhat by the life of former New York Giants linebacker Spencer Paysinger, All American (the absence of hyphen hurts me every time) focuses on Spencer James (Ezra), star wide receiver from South Crenshaw High. Raised by a hard-working mother (Karimah Westbrook) with a precocious younger brother (Jalyn Hall), Spencer has big dreams, which may be limited by his dangerous neighborhood, in which gunshots can interrupt football celebrations and police helicopters are a pervasive feature.

Vivo

Next, another cartoon appears on the list of top 10 shows and movies on Netflix. Vivo is an animated adventure starring Lin-Manuel Miranda as a singing Kinkajou.

Lin-Manuel Miranda played as Vivo, a music-loving kinkajou embarks on the journey of a lifetime to fulfill his destiny and deliver a love song for an old friend.

Outer Banks

The story of Outer Banks is about a small coastal town in North Carolina, where the class divide between residents grows as the legend of a hidden treasure launches a local manhunt.

Outer Banks’ over-the-top melodrama is balanced out by a strong sense of adventure that’s bound to hook those looking to capture that summer feeling.

The Chair

The Chair is a new series on Netflix. With its intriguing plot, no doubt why it has a place on most popular netflix movies today.

Sandra Oh’s playing a doctor once again, but this time around, she’s starring in this Netflix dramedy as a professor attempting to navigate the complicated politics of an upper crust university’s English department.

Manifest

Manifest is about a commercial airliner suddenly reappears after being missing for five years. As those aboard reintegrate into society, they experience guiding voices and visions of events yet to occur, and soon a deeper mystery unfolds.

The movie’s attempts to balance supernatural mystery and melodrama largely work thanks to its well-chosen cast — though it could use a few more distinguishing characteristics. However, for entertainment, this movie is still worth the hype.

The Loud House Movie

Netflix debuted a movie spinoff of the Nickelodeon animated series The Loud House, and it’s already the number 2 movie on the platform overall. The Loud House premiered on Nick in 2016 and has quickly become one of the network’s biggest hits. By picking up the accompanying movie, Netflix is now reaping the rewards of that franchise as well.

During a family trip to Scotland, the Louds discover that they’re actually descendants of royalty, and epic adventures ensue.

Sweet Girl – No 1 Of Top 10 Shows And Movies On Netflix

This week top 1 of popular shows/movies on Netflix is Sweet Girl, which stars Jason Momoa as a devoted husband and father whose loss of his wife to cancer — which could have been possibly prevented had the big, bad pharma company done the right thing — sends him and his daughter down a dark path of justice.

Directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza, Momoa’s longtime producing partner who makes his directorial debut here, Sweet Girl fits the exact brief of the kind of run-of-the-mill thriller, written and shot according to a specific formula and anchored by one big star, which the streaming giant has made into a vast cottage industry. A perfunctory layer of social consciousness is applied over the top, but it’s done in such a heavy-handed manner that the film just becomes exhausting to watch.

So, that’s the top 10 shows and movies on Netflix, hopefully, you will enjoy the list.
